ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION “FORGET-ME-NOT” GALA
06/02/2008 - By The Pierre
David Hyde Pierce; Kate Burton; and Jonathan Groff
(Monday, June 2, 2008 – New York, NY) – Hundreds of leaders of New York’s philanthropic, business, civic and health care communities joined the Alzheimer’s Association, New York City Chapter at its annual “Forget-Me-Not” Gala at The Pierre.
The event, which raised $1,100,000, was emceed by Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce, star of the hit Broadway show Curtains. David, a tireless advocate in the Alzheimer’s community, serves on the Board of the National Alzheimer’s Association and as its national spokesperson. He lost his father and grandfather to the disease.
In his welcome remarks, Mr. Hyde Piece said, “For those families who have experienced Alzheimer’s disease, we know the toll it takes. But for those who have never experienced the disease, it is too easy to dismiss the extraordinary impact of dementia – not only on individuals and families, but on the community. Over the past few years, the performing arts have played an important role in heightening public awareness, setting the stage for a public dialogue about the crisis of Alzheimer’s disease. Tonight we are here to shine a spotlight on the contributions of a few special individuals.”
