American Friends of PSRD's first fundraiser for 2009

On Friday, May 1st, American Friends of PSRD hosted its first fundraiser for 2009 at Babel Lounge in New York City.
The event was put together as an opportunity for young professionals to come together for a night of networking and live music, with all of the proceeds raised to be donated to the Pakistan Society for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled (PSRD). The event attracted approximately 150 young professionals to the quaint East Village hangout, all there to support one cause- the rehabilitation of the physically handicapped in Pakistan.
Since 1991 the organization has been instrumental in raising funds for PSRD, one of the country’s largest orthopedic hospitals, founded in 1957. Focusing on more than just physical rehabilitation, PSRD has gone beyond medical / surgical care and has been providing quality education and vocational training to facilitate better social and economic integration for its patients. Working directly with the World Rehabilitation Fund (WRF) since its inception, American Friends of PSRD has been actively involved in various fundraising initiatives through out the Tri-State area and to date has raised roughly half a million dollars for the PSRD center in Lahore.
The events main goal was to help increase awareness for this cause among the young professional community. If the capacity crowd at Babel Lounge was any indication, the organization has certainly succeeded in this endeavor. The night was capped off with a rousing performance by LA based singer/songwriter Jes Hudak and overall turned into the perfect kickoff event for the summer season.
