On Sunday, September 21st, 2008, Project Sunshine’s 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk took place in Riverside Park in New York City.
This event had something for everyone— families and serious runners alike. Thousands of volunteers and supporters began a USA T&F Certified 5K Run/Walk overlooking the Hudson River. Adding to the overall festival-like atmosphere, live music, an appearance by Clifford the Dog, clowns and face painters are planned. In addition, appearances by Miss New York, Cooper from the Nickelodeon show “The Naked Brothers Band,” and Rachel Covey, from the film “Enchanted” are anticipated.
Project Sunshine is a nonprofit organization that provides free, educational, recreational, and social programs to children facing medical challenges and their families. Sending volunteers to visit hospitalized children to provide arts and crafts, tutoring, reading, nutritional cooking and special events. Project Sunshine has over 12,000 volunteers throughout the United States, Canada, China, Israel and Kenya, who work with over 150 pediatric medical facilities, and serve over 60,000 children and their families each year. Locally, Project Sunshine volunteers can be found in more than 50 hospitals in the Greater NY Area. Project Sunshine works with each hospital to determine where our help is needed most and sends volunteers to fill these needs. Volunteers are a diverse group of college students, lawyers, teachers, and individuals of all backgrounds and ages.
